Neale's Legacy

We learn about early churches by looking at their hymns. They proclaimed their beliefs in these hymns. Hymns such as, “O come, O come, Emmanuel,” and “Of the Father’s love begotten” remain effective because great effort had been given to accurately translate early church hymns (Greek and Latin hymns). The works of John Mason Neale live on as they are still sung today. Reading the text to these hymns, I find that they contain the works of Christ, the Gospel and it encourages me that God gives every generation people like Neale who impacted lives for generations to come as Neale would say, “If I have opened the way for others to do better what I have done imperfectly, I shall have every reason to be thankful.”(167) Neale's works are relavent because we have to keep our eyes on the prize like Neale did in the work of what God has given us, to reach people for the love of Christ, through the Gospel message.
