A Funnel To The Heart

In Calvin's essay, he states "It is true that every evil word (as Saint Paul says) corrupts good morals, but when melody is with it, this stabs the heart much more strongly and enters within. Just as wine is poured inside a vessel through a funnel, so poison and corruption is distilled down to the depths of the heart through the melody." (67) Calvin speaks truth. For some reason, songs break down moral and intellectual barriers and are accepted without much thought. Music, Television, and Literature can include an underlying theme that pushes it's way into our thoughts and even our hearts. Christians must not only be cautious and discerning with our church music, but also our private music.
