Watts and the Gospel

"The greatest part of 'em are suited to the General State of the Gospel, and the most common Affairs of Christians." (117) Already we see Watts's view of Gospel importance. Watts wrote this statement following a discussion on the psalms, and how they lacked the great message of "Light" that Jesus introduced in the New Testament. Later, Watts states, "To him also, even to the Lamb that was slain and now lives, I have addrest many a Song; for thus doth the Holy Scripture instruct and teach us to Worship..." Watts sees the vitality of the Gospel before the experiences of man. Christians need to keep this right perspective, and praise the Lamb, whose sacrifice has given us the ability to Worship and have a relationship with a Holy God.
