Emphasis in worship

Joe Horness brings out a point when he talks about getting the congregation involved in worship. He said, “At Willow Creek we may invite them to kneel, to turn and pray together, to stand and raise their hands , to leave their seats to bring an offering or to receive Communion.” It is true that a worship leader has concern in the participation of the congregation. He goes on to say, “We are there to serve them” This sentence, in my opinion, puts too much emphasis on the congregation. It is true that worship leaders are there not to perform but to lead the people; however when will emphasizing too much on the congregation’s participation affects the end of our worship? It is the congregation’s job to come to worship prepared to meet God. When my heart is prepared, then the worship I long for will be the worship that God delights.
