Harold Best gives us readers a glimpse of his background on pages 122-123. However, in doing so, he made a remark that served as a warning to me. He wrote, "I agree that classically driven church musicians have done way too much to obscure the true nature of church music as, above all else, the people's song. Far too many have made aesthetics and difficult accessibility their golden calves." There is not much context for me to fully understand what he means. Does anyone else have any idea what he is saying? If so, are we in any danger of idolatry because of our classical music background?
