Singing the Psalms

“Music in church must be carefully regulated so that it does not do more harm than good; humans cannot worthily offer anything to God but God’s own words themselves”(62) and “Now what St. Augustine says is true, that no one can sing things worthy of God, except what he may have received from him; when we shall have moved all around to search here and there, we shall find no better nor more proper songs to do this than the Psalms of David”(67)

As I read through this section of our reading, I am beginning to appreciate the singing of psalm more. As part of my devotions, I enjoyed reading the Psalms, as they are dedicated to admiring God’s character or calling out to God in a time of suffering (Psalm 22) or giving thanks to God for His deliverance. (Psalm 9).
