Knowing God

My dear brother Myles Coverdale said many wonderful things in his book, one of which came right out of Jeremiah 9. I first read these verses this summer, and I very often read them since that time.
"Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.
(Jeremiah 9:23-24)"
Myles puts it this way (and I'm going to translate into modern English for the sake of reading): "...but let us altogether (from the most unto ye least) be glad, rejoice and be merry even from our heart rotes, that we have gotten the knowledge of the Lord among us, that we are sure of his love and favor, and that our names are written in Heaven." How often do we rejoice in what is fleeting, instead the timeless, limitless Gospel? Isaiah 40:8 says it this way, "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God will stand forever (and 1 Peter 1:25 adds that this word is the good news, the Gospel). The Gospel never fades away. As I just read today from a tweet by Paul Washer, "We are in danger of error whenever we overemphasize one truth over others. However, the Gospel cannot be overstated or overemphasized." And again, "We cannot become too Gospel-centered. We cannot become overly preoccupied or overly devoted to the Gospel." Let us continue to grow in our knowing God, and may that always be the source and means of our worship!
